Angels IMPACT Newsletter: Q1 Highlights
Working together to empower lives and bring change to under-resourced rural communities!
Dear Friends of Angels
The first quarter of the year has been a highly IMPACTFUL period for us, marking a significant step forward in our operational capacity. We’ve focused much of our time on enhancing our training ecosystem, expanding both local and national partnerships, and scaling our field operations – laying solid foundations for our programmes to continue delivering long-term economic transformation of the highest standard while our national footprint expands.
Whether we’re running bootcamps for rural entrepreneurs, mentoring young agripreneurs as they break into commercial supply chains, or launching new youth-focused empowerment programmes, this quarter has been a rewarding reminder of what is possible. The successes highlighted in this edition are a direct reflection on resilient communities, dedicated partners, and a shared commitment to making local economic development actually work in South Africa.
This year has also marked an exciting new chapter for us as we officially welcomed our accredited training partner, Lead Academy (Pty) Ltd, into our growing implementation ecosystem. This partnership now enables us to integrate a wider range of formal skills development and accredited training opportunities into our programmes, creating stronger pathways toward employment, entrepreneurship, and long-term sustainability for our beneficiaries
In addition, we are proud to partner with BathoFusion, whose innovative technology-focused programmes are opening doors for youth through digital literacy, computer skills development, hardware assembly, and emerging technology opportunities. This is a major focus area for us going forward, as we are committed to helping young people access new pathways into the world of work and the evolving digital economy.
Most importantly, we extend our sincere appreciation to our clients, partners, stakeholders, and communities for the continued trust and support that allow us to walk this impactful journey together. Your belief in our vision enables us to continue igniting potential, integrating opportunities, and creating sustainable impact where it matters most!
With Gratitude,
Lizelle Coombs & the Angels Resource Centres Team
Rural Enterprise Development
Establishing sustainable small enterprises to directly address poverty and unemployment:
A Strategic & Impactful Investment in Rural Entrepreneurs
South Africa continues to face immense challenges regarding unemployment, with a particularly critical crisis impacting our youth and residents of rural areas; But these issues are not unsolvable. We have always believed that the solution to sustainable economic transformation begins at the grassroots level.
Enterprise4Change directly addresses these challenges by empowering local entrepreneurs within critical, community-essential industries. By equipping them to build, formalise, and scale their business ideas, E4C fosters the creation of permanent, sustainable jobs and drives vital supply chain and economic development in rural areas.
We are thrilled to announce the rollout of fresh E4C intakes across the Northern Cape & Mpumalanga, made possible through our valued partnerships with Noblesfontein Wind Farm, Seriti Green & Scatec ASA. These programmes are set to continue to deeply impact communities in towns like Victoria West, Groblershoop, Kenhardt and Bethal.
To lay the groundwork for these new cohorts, we recently concluded two intensive E4C Bootcamps in Groblershoop and Kenhardt. Serving as a crucial part of our selection process, these business skills bootcamps revealed an incredible depth of talent, drive, and innovation amongst the local entrepreneurs who participated.
Growth doesn’t stop at the foundational level. We are equally excited to transition individuals from our 2025/2026 programmes into a higher-level support phase. This advanced track is specifically designed to help these established businesses scale their operations, streamline their systems, and unlock further sustainable employment opportunities within their regions.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE ANGELS BOARD
We are thrilled to officially welcome John-Louis Siaby to the Angels Resource Centres Board!
John-Louis brings a wealth of international experience, with a sharp focus on innovation, digital transformation, and future-focused skills development. His strategic guidance will be invaluable as we continue to elevate and expand the technology and digital skills training integrated into our grassroots programmes.
As the founder of BathoFusion, John-Louis’s global network, strategic foresight, and deep commitment to impact-driven work align perfectly with our mission, and we look forward to the fresh perspectives and collaborative opportunities this partnership will unlock.
MAY TEAM TRAINING
We heavily rely on our team’s resilience, collaboration, and shared heart for the people we serve to deliver the highest standards of programme implementation. Because we are growing so fast – and meaningful change begins from within – the Angels team dedicated two powerful days in May to internal alignment and professional growth.
As a fully remote organisation working in complex, often emotionally demanding rural environments, taking intentional time to reconnect and realign our shared vision is vital. Facilitated by Africa Scotland Business Network and generously supported by Seriti Green, this team-building workshop allowed us to strengthen our internal Ubuntu culture, build trust, refocus on our collective goals, and design scalable frameworks for better communication and collaboration.
A heartfelt thank you to the Africa Scotland Business Network and Seriti Green for investing in our people, our growth, and the work we do every day!
We are proud to share that we are officially listed on The Helpers, an incredible non-profit database developed by Brent Lindeque and the team at Good Things Guy.
This platform connects verified public benefit organisations with citizens and corporates looking to give back or collaborate. You can view our verified profile here, along with many other incredible Non-Profits from all across South Africa.
ANGELS PROGRAMME UPDATES
We have just wrapped up Q3 of our current Youth4Change (Y4C) programme in the Northern Cape, proudly delivered in partnership with Scatec.
This quarter, our focus was on channelling the immense energy of a vibrant, inspiring group of young change-makers from Groblershoop. These talented young people showed up each week, discarding a “wait-and-see” attitude to take charge of their futures and take the initiative to drive their local economies forward from the inside out.
Through digital literacy, future-focused skills training, and personal leadership development, these participants are being equipped to step out of the cycle of unemployment and into active economic participation.
Watching this cohort unlock their potential and build confidence while collaborating on community-centric ideas has been nothing short of inspiring. They are proof that when you invest in rural youth, you ignite the future of the entire region.
AGRICULTURE WITH ATTITUDE
Our ongoing Agri4Change (A4C) programme, made possible through our valued partnership with Seriti Green, continues to drive agricultural innovation and food security in Mpumalanga.
By equipping local farmers with advanced business management skills, technical compliance, and market access, A4C transforms small-scale projects into highly productive commercial realities that can sustainably support food supply chains and create long-term employment opportunities.
We are currently celebrating the achievements of two current participants, Lindokuhle Zwane and Lungelo Nhlanhla.
Through her active participation in the A4C programme, Lindokuhle has continuously refined her agricultural operations and implemented a strict business management structure. This dedication has culminated in a massive milestone: Lindokuhle is now a fresh produce supplier for Bethal SUPERSPAR!
When Lungelo first joined the A4C programme, his enterprise was producing 1,000 broilers per quarter, primarily serving local resellers and the surrounding Bethal community. Through strategic scaling, business refinement, and securing a critical supply contract, Siditshile Projects has dramatically increased its output and is now producing 1,000 chickens every 6 to 8 weeks!
Highlighting his visionary leadership in sustainable agriculture, Lungelo was recently nominated as one of the Green Youth Indaba Top 50 candidates for the Green Innovators’ Pitch Pre-Pitch Programme! We are exceptionally proud of his achievements and commitment to driving regional job creation.
ANGELS ALUM: BRANDEN TIER - PIXLEY YARD & RECYCLING SERVICES
As part of our retrospective series, we recently sat down with Branden Tier, a standout alumnus of our 2017 Waste4Change programme in the Northern Cape, to see how his entrepreneurial journey has unfolded over the last nine years.
When Branden first joined us, he was fuelled by a school-era passion for recycling but lacked formal business structures. Angels stepped in to provide foundational support, assisting with zero-cost CIPC business registration, financial management training, essential tools, and helped to secure the business’ very first operational vehicle.
"Angels gave birth to Pixley Yard & Recycling Services."
Branden Tier, Founder
What started as solo ambition has scaled into a multi-service enterprise that permanently employs 56 local community members!
Branden’s team now services 35 permanent residential clients, operates a community-focused hub that provides free or low-cost administrative services to locals, and manages massive site clearance contracts across two major regional solar plant sites (including a partnership alongside international contractors).
His story is the living embodiment of the IMPACT we strive to create. With big dreams to launch a formal corporate scrapyard and an innovative street-by-street green recycling initiative next, we couldn’t be prouder to have played a part in his origin story!
ANGELS SERVICES
Our specialised B2B support services help corporate partners design, implement, and manage high-impact socio-economic and skills development initiatives. Currently, our managed internship and bursary programmes in collaboration with industry leaders like Anthem, ENGIE and Umoya Energy are running exceptionally smoothly.
Anthem Social Performance Intern, Willbur Cleophas, was recently tasked with designing and leading his own community project. Willbur chose to focus on disability inclusion and organised a disability awareness and empowerment event, which brought together key stakeholders, community members living with disabilities, and other role players to share experiences and have open conversations around inclusion, empowerment, and access to opportunities. It created a space for learning, connection, and real community engagement.
The event was well planned and executed, and reflected Willbur’s initiative and deep commitment to making a positive impact in the community. It was also encouraging to see the strong turnout and support from both stakeholders and community members, which contributed to its overall success.

TRAINING PARTNERS
Our ability to deliver on the ground gets a major boost this quarter as we officially team up with two strategic training partners: BathoFusion & Lead Academy. Both bring a heavy-hitting practical edge to our digital and vocational programmes, alongside accredited certifications and a community-centred approach.
BathoFusion are a team of specialists focused on dismantling the digital divide in South Africa. Their leadership brings a unique mix of global insight and local technical expertise to the table, and via this collaboration, we’re now able to bake high-level 4IR skills and scalable tech solutions directly into our rural youth and enterprise programmes.
Lead Academy is a QCTO-accredited provider that skips the fluff in favour of practical, industry-relevant training.
Their focus is simple: education that leads directly to employment or business growth. By integrating their accredited structures into our regional initiatives, we’re ensuring that our participants don’t just walk away with new practical knowledge and skills, but also the formal credentials they need to open doors in the commercial world.
