..and everywhere life is full of heroism

These words are from one of my favorite poems and I found them to be especially relevant at the moment.  During these past few months I have been fortunate to be part of (or observed) so many acts of kindness in our communities.  If anything, CV-19 has shone a really bright light on the many ills and inequalities in our society.  As Angels, we are more determined than ever to continue addressing as many of these challenges as we can through our sponsored programmes.

We hope that you will enjoy reading our newsletter as much as we enjoyed putting it together for your reading pleasure.

Thank you for supporting Angels and helping us to make an impact in the rural communities of South Africa.

Lizelle Coombs
Group CEO
Angels Resource Centres

There was much to do this month as our Rural Development Lead and Mentor, Chris Vermeulen and Aviwe Allie, his field liaison, kept supporting our entrepreneurs through thick and thin!  Our Agri4Change programme was particularly busy with Chris and Aviwe helping to organise the drilling of boreholes, ploughing of fields, planting, feeding and generally just being absolutely invested in the success of our entrepreneurs.

Inbetween all the usual programme activities, our Angels also supported CV-19 efforts by organising the delivery of masks, sanitizers, PPE and food parcels.  Thank you Eddie and the Northern Cape Angels for being out there risking your health and safety to support those in our most vulnerable communities.

Recycling Angels

Our Northern Cape Recycling Angels initiative (NoCRA) is an exciting result of our Big Waste Wake-up activities.  Under the expert guidance of our CEO in this province, Eddie Kampher, the infrastructure around NoCRA is growing across the province. The aim of this programme is to empower and capacitate rural entrepreneurs through recycling and waste management related interventions.

We are now collecting and buying back from the smallest, informal entrepreneurs in recycling and waste and thus creating opportunities and immediate income streams in vulnerable communities.  We must commend the municipalities in the Northern Cape as well as our IPP (Independent Power Producer) clients, for their contributions and collaborative spirit in growing this initiative across the province.

Business e-Zone Social Franchises

Our locally owned Business e-Zone in De Aar is about to unveil it’s second mobile business unit, proudly sponsored by Solar Capital De Aar 3.
Watch this space for more news…

Business e-Zone Fish Hoek is still in incubation phase and we invite you to support the developing entrepreneurs inside our Centre in Main Road Fish Hoek. There is a Barista Training Centre selling excellent coffees from our in-house Coffee-Zone, a Tourism Information & Gift Shop (now also an ONLINE shop), Graphic Designer and the usual Business e-Zone support services.

Our Business e-Zones are social franchises that become 100% owned by local entrepreneurs after a minimum of three years of of incubation and training.  This makes it a sustainable venture in which to invest enterprise development funds.  Contact Denise Dookoo for investment information.

Friends of Angels

In the picture above are some of our mentors and mentees at an introduction session (post CV- 19) earlier this year.  The mentors had their first post-lockdown session this month via Zoom and are ready to take on mentees for the rest of the year.    We are excited to welcome our Angels Board Member, Mrs Nisha Patel, to the Friends of Angels programme.  She will be supporting the mentors with the assistance of our wonderful and efficient intern, Tasneem Adams.

We invite you to join us as a Friend of Angels and help us make impact all across South Africa with our programmes.  Each Friend of Angels helps us to support the unemployed, homeless and under resourced members of many communities.
